How to Thrift Shop at Goodwill

"How do you ALWAYS find cute stuff? I N E V E R find anything when I shop."

I honestly can't tell you how many times I hear this statement in a week about shopping + even more so when it comes to thrifting. If this is how you currently feel I'm here to tell you that you are going about it ALL WRONG! This week on CURRENTLY Kherington, I am sharing four of my thrifting secrets to guarantee your next trip to Goodwill a SUCCESS!

Take Your Time
You have probably heard the saying "time is of the essence" + that's a major key to thrifting success. The biggest mistake you are making while thrifting is shopping in a hurry. Which is also the number one reason you probably don't enjoy shopping in general or the thrill of the thrift. In order to discover that true wardrobe gem, you have to take your time + not rush through the racks. This makes the thrifting experience less stressful + way more enjoyable.

Make a Day of It
Speaking of time, why not make a day of it! I personally love to hop around to multiple Goodwill locations {shoutout to Cascade, Ivanrest, + Knapp's Corner}. Since Goodwill is donation based, I have learned that different stores can have completely different inventory options. Once you hone in on your ideal location{s}, your thrift hauls will always be packed with style gems.

Shop With An Open Mind
If you are shopping with a v e r y s p e c i f i c list {read: why can't I just find a crisp white button down}, you are going to be disappointed each + every time. The key to thrift shopping is going into your local Goodwill with an o p e n m i n d. It's the time when you can think outside of your style comfort zone + get creative with your choices. I LOVE to step over into the men's section while thrift shopping. Some of my favorite oversized blazers {here} + flannel shirts {here} for fall/winter have been from the men's racks. When you are open minded about your purchases, this creates even more variety + options to enhance your current wardrobe.

Try Pieces On
I don't know how many times I can emphasize this point. When it comes to thrift shopping, you CAN NOT just pick it up + walk it out. THAT IS NOT THE PURPOSE of thrift shopping + you aren't getting the full experience. In order to always score the best thrift finds, you have to try pieces on. I can tell you that 9 times out of 10 whatever you are on the fence about will look better on you than it does on the hanger. + even if something doesn't look the best on you, no worries. That is between you + the mirror. Just put it back + keep on hunting!
