Let's talk facts.

If you are anything like me, you kicked off 2018 with a fresh set of color coded pens {that preferably write like a fine point marker} + a new planner to set your goals. While this is the first, very important step, sometimes this is as far as we get. Apparently by the time February rolls around only 20% of goal diggers are still hustlin' to crush their goals on a long term basis. While the other 80% decide to start again next year. I personally believe that goals should be top of mind every single day, not just when a new year begins. From taking the initiative to being realistic, I'm sharing five ways to accomplish goals all year long.

How to Reach Blog and Business Goals

Take the Initiative
Putting pen to paper for our goals isn't enough + which makes it easy to begin to wonder when "xyz" is going to happen. That's why it's important to take the i n i t i a t i v e. Instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity to fall into our lap {which rarely happens in 30 days}, why not look for ways to set our goals in motion. For example, if you are a blogger who wants to work with more brands this year, make a list + take the initiative to pitch a collaboration idea to them. This takes the guessing/hoping/wishing game out of the equation + gives you the answer you are looking for instantly. If you receive a "no", don't sweat it. You aren't any worse off than you were in the first place. {+ remember, "no" isn't always definite, it could just mean "not right now".} On the flip side, you could also receive the "yes" you have been looking for all because you prompted the relationship.

A Goal is Great, but a Plan is Better
What's your plan? Sometimes we set goals without any real intention behind them. Reason #8940 why our goals may not be anywhere near getting off the ground. Instead of saying {insert generic goal like "I want to make more money this year"}, curate a plan with action behind it. Figure out an exact dollar amount along with how you want to reach that goal. This will keep you focused + motivate you to take greater action to reach your goal.

Don't Beat Yourself Up
As cliché as it sounds, we are our own worst critic. I know I'm harder on myself than anyone else is. This is why it's so important not to beat yourself up when it comes to your goals and how fast you are reaching them. Instead of focusing on how far away goals may seem, reflect on what you have accomplished so far. The WORST thing you can do for yourself or your goals is to compare your plan to someone else's {especially if they are in a similar industry or situation}. Remember that they are YOUR goals + however you reach them are a part of YOUR journey.

Be Realistic
When you are focused on something you are passionate about, it's natural to want to do ALL THE THINGS. *Spoiler Alert* - that's not always realistic. Setting too many unrealistic goals is a sure way to stop your progress before you even start. One thing I like to do is write down three tasks I need to accomplish each day. They are usually connected to a larger goal, making that task less overwhelming overall. Another way to make sure that you are being realistic is by asking for help in any area needed. It's easy to spread ourselves thin when trying to complete multiple tasks or goals. Work smarter, not harder + delegate a task to someone who is better at it than you. That way you can focus on what really needs to get done. You can't do it all alone.

Be Open Minded
As the year progresses, our initial goals may shift or evolve into something unexpected. When that happens, the key to accomplishing our goals is to be o p e n m i n d e d. Once we start to think that our goals can only be fulfilled one way we actually limit any opportunity to reach them. Setting goals with an open mind gives us more flexibility in our decisions and makes room for overall growth.

While the statistics really put goal setting into perspective, I have decided to let the facts propel me forward instead of keep me in my place. My ultimate goal with this post is to build your confidence to do the same. As long as we are grounded in the "why" behind our goals, we will stay consistent + motivated to accomplish them all year long. Share one of your 2018 goals with me in the comment, along with how you plan to reach it! I would love to be your accountability buddy!
